Why Sexual and Reproductive Health?

  • Reproductive health in developing world is totally different that what we see in developed countries. Reproductive tract infections is a huge problem of these days. It has become a silent epidemic which devastates women's life. It is closely interrelated with poor menstrual hygiene.

  • Therefore, proper menstrual hygiene as well as correct perceptions and beliefs can protect and prevent the womenfolk from this suffering. Before changing in menstrual practices, the girls should be educated about menstruation, physiological implications, significance of menstruation and development of secondary sexual characteristics.
  • There is need of proper hygienic practices with selection of disposable sanitary menstrual absorbent. This can be achieved through tel-educational programs, school health personnel, compulsory sex education in school and parents' awareness.
  • Therefore, received education would wipe away misconceptions and make free to discuss about menstrual matters without any hesitation. All mothers should  be taught regarding menstruation and girls should be taught about it before the age of menarche.

  • Lack of privacy is another problem. Women do not have access to basic facilities like water, bathroom and privacy, the standard of hygiene is severely compromised. Improvement of housing conditions with respect to basic facilities is an essential need.
  • Use of sanitary pads can be advocated to every girl. It should be available at affordable prices.
